Woven Voices: December 2009 Update

An interactive global art project inspired by Tibetan prayer flags, Shinto paper prayers, and the Buddhist concept of impermanence.

I launched this project on December 29, 2007. Since that time I have received over one thousand paper, cloth and ribbon messages from as far away as Italy, Spain, Iraq, Texas, California and Florida.

These positive messages are read out loud in a public place and then cut into strips and woven by volunteers into brightly colored prayer flags. As the flags are completed, I send them back out to those who send me messages as well as folks who might be traveling. These colorful hand-woven flags are hung outside in communities around the world to fade, unravel and release the messages of hope, peace and renewal. Over 300 prayer flags have been woven to date and sent all over the globe. There is an on-line gallery of the prayer flags illustrating that we all sing one voice of peace and hope. (See below)

To contribute: please send positive messages of hope and renewal, dreams, wishes or prayers written on paper of any size, color and weight. Cloth strips or ribbon are fine too. Send to: Sarah Haskell P.O. Box 452, York ME 03909

All are welcome to join me to read and weave!

As the flags are completed, I continue to send them back out to the world. See the Woven Voices blog to read the latest news.

Namaste, Sarah
