Welcome to my Web site. This is the place to come for the latest news on my art and educator activities. Please look around, let me know what you think, and come again! And don't forget to check out the button project update, my calendar and the newest additions to the gallery.
It has been several months since my last update. The good news is that I have been busy traveling, teaching, making art and spending time with family and friends. There is no bad news... just a lot to share in this brief space!
In my work as a teaching artist there have been several highlights from the past six months. These include a residency at the Kensington, NH elementary school where we worked together to complete a Mandala Community Weaving that celebrated world peace. I have included a photo of the completed weaving here. I also completed a residency at Tewksbury State Hospital, creating twelve community mandalas with patients and staff. With the generous support of a NH State Arts Council Artist Professional Development grant I attended the Society for Arts and Health Conference in Nashville. This was a wonderful opportunity for me to network on national level with my peers in the field of arts and healing.
This August, I attended "Cultivating the Field," the second Teaching Artist Institute at Lesley University, a collaborative venture with Lesley and NECAP (New England Consortium of Teaching Artist Professional). I chronicled highlights of the 3-day institute on their website. And lastly, I have been invited to teach a course titled "The Professional Artist" at the NH Institute of Art. I am quite excited to be back teaching college age students, and pleased to be teaching a course that will expand my skills and knowledge while motivating students to do the same.
Please be sure to check out a new section on my website: Mandala Community Weaving, which explores a successful community weaving project that I have developed.
In the studio I have had time to make new work, to exhibit and to play with new materials. This summer, I was in a group show at the Wentworth Coolidge Gallery, Portsmouth, NH. I exhibited four screen artworks, my first exhibit which was solely within this new medium. I am very pleased to say that I sold 3 pieces, and received rave reviews from many viewers. I am currently working on a screen art commission for a private home, and have several other pieces in the works. Check out my gallery soon for updates on these pieces.
"Each One: the Button Project, a 9/11 memorial" will be exhibit along with other woven artworks at the Marran Gallery at Lesley University. There will be an opening on September 11th. I am honored to have the opportunity to share this piece on the 6th anniversary of this tragic event.
In November, I will be heading back to be an artist in residence at Acadia National Park. I am thrilled to have the invitation and the time to soak up the beauty of Schoodic Peninsula.
Please check out my gallery and send me a note with your thoughts about my work. I appreciate hearing from you!
And please check out my calendar for current and future exhibits, residencies and workshops.
As ever, thank you for your interest and support of my artwork and teaching. I hope the beauty of this earth brings you joy.
Peace,
Sarah
