Spring has burst upon the woods that surround my studio. Daffodils, robins, delicate new leaves, and bugs! I am surprised each year how the shift in weather, colors, bird song and smells bring me a renewed sense of energy.
I was an artist-in-residence at the Mead School in Stamford, CT in early March. We worked for three days to complete a four foot round weaving. The weaving was inspired by the students' studies of world cultures. The images (right and below) show the completed piece as well as two of the youngest weavers at work.
This month (May) I am involved in four concurrent exhibits. Look at my artist calendar to learn more about these shows and to find links to the gallery web sites. Next month I have another show opening at the Coolidge Center for the Arts, Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion, Portsmouth, NH.
The new work has been growing steadily. My newest series is called "The Language of Truth" and was inspired by the concept of truth, both in my home, in our country and the world. Each piece incorporates the Japanese technique of Shifu, (twisted rice paper with writing) and explores thoughts about truth.
For example, the writing in "The Whole Truth" explores these thoughts: "The whole truth has no beginning, no end"; "The whole truth cannot be altered"; and "The whole truth belongs to everyone and can be claimed by no one." These pieces will be posted in my Gallery soon.
