Welcome to my Web site. This is the place to come for the latest news on my art and educator activities. Please look around, let me know what you think, and come again! And don't forget to check out the button project update and my calendar.

the weaving from Country School

As I write this update, I am gallery sitting at the Aucocisco Gallery at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland, ME. I am participating in a group show here of the Maine Crafts Association. It is a snowy day, many area schools have cancelled classes, and the traffic is slow. So it is a perfect day to catch up on my website updates!

The past three months have offered me a wide variety of residency work, professional development opportunities and a few windows of time for art work. In October I was an artist-in-residence at the Country School, a small private school in Madison, CT. We had a wonderful time illustrating the school theme of "The Year of Harmony 2002". The image that you see here (top right) is the finished weaving that was worked on by over 110 students! We had a culminating event that included student songs, poems, and presentations. I will post details and more photos on the Educator section of my website soon.

Rotella K-1 weaving

During the month of November, I had the pleasure of being an artist-in-residence at the Rotella Magnet School in Waterbury, CT. This school has a diverse and interesting population since it is an arts magnet school. I worked with the Kindergartners and First grades to complete a circular weaving titled "Harmony and Diversity"(image at left). Each child made a clothespin person, and also helped to weave the circular weaving. The finished weaving is stunning!

Also at Rotella I worked with the four Second grade classes to design and weave a piece called "Our Thanksgiving". The work was based on the students' drawings, and each student made a small detail such as a person or food, as well as wove on the background cloth. We had fun, and as you can see (bottom image) the finished weaving is spectacular!

The Button Project has had a busy summer and fall, and will come home to my studio in a couple of weeks. You can read more about the path of this amazing community art project in the Button Project section of the website.

The Winter Solstice is this weekend, and we plan on celebrating the return of the sun with friends. I hope that the light shines on your life and that the New Year brings each of you the beauty and love that you deserve.
