What's Now, July 2002

Welcome to my new Web site - we are still building up the content, so please look around, let me know what you think, and come again!

As we get more organized, this will be the place to come for the latest news on my art and educator activities.

And don't forget to check out the button project update and my calendar.

July 18th, 2002 is the opening for the show "Uncommon Threads, New Twists on Textile Art". This exhibit, at the Currier Gallery of Art in Manchester, NH runs through the 2nd of September. I am pleased and honored to be included in this New England Textile Invitational. I hope that those of you in the area will be able to come see the show. (Check out the show information here).

On June 16th, I completed the Button Project. It was an immense project, not only in size (almost 10 feet by just over 4 feet), but in heart and spirit. I was stretched both physically and emotionally. I am humbled by this work. It feels like it came through me from a place larger than my own heart, as though I absorbed the sorrow of the world. Now it is completed and hanging in this exhibit for the next two months.

In early September, the Button Project will travel to the University of NH Gallery (Durham, NH) at the Paul Arts Center for an exhibit that will highlight how an artist can use art to heal, to create change, and to build community. I will be giving an artist's talk on September 11th at noon. (Check out the details here).

These past two months have been one of wrapping up school residencies as well as leading teacher training workshops. Included here is an image of a collaborative weaving about the winter environment in NH forests, designed and woven by the 5th graders of Brookline, NH.

Photo of CT HOT collaborative installation

I traveled to the CT HOT School Institute this last week to co-lead a workshop that integrated weaving with dance. The image that you see is from a collaborative installation that brought writing, weaving and movement together in a four hour class session.

I am encouraged by the success of recent months to continue to grow as an artist and an educator. Thank you to all who have supported my work and my vision.
