"Hope", a single panel textile work, was my first completed piece following the Button Project. During the late summer and early fall of 2002, I made several small works that were more like sketches. These pieces used hand woven black cloth in which holes were woven, cut and sewn back together. I needed to create works that were frayed, worn and patched. That is how my spirit felt. These pieces are still hanging in my studio, as sketches and reflections. "Hope," with its symbols and images of new growth, movement and hope, became the piece that moved me out of this place of hopelessness and darkness.
