Mandala Community Weaving© was conceived and designed by artist Sarah Haskell. It has been presented to groups of every age and ability. Developed to create an artistic and symbolic expression of a community, projects have been offered in hospitals, schools, nursery schools, community organizations and festivals.
Each Mandala Community Weaving© is a unique expression of the spirit of the group which creates it. From the colors of the weaving, to the representations of people, to the shapes of woven areas and textures of the weaving, the completed Mandala is a symbol and celebration of each community.
1. The MCW Workshop Mandala© is a one day activity that can involve up to a hundred participants. This can be at a school, a community event/festival or a health care facility.
2. The MCW Residency Mandala is spread out over a longer time period. It can involve a larger community, or I can work in depth with a small group, especially those who need more assistance. During the residency, more than one mandala can be created.
3. The MCW Mandala Kit is a packaged set of directions with the prepared loom and all the materials needed for weaving and creating the clothes pin people. I will also provide the needed training for a teacher or staff to guide this project.
