In 2002, I worked with the recreation director at the VA Hospital to offer resident patients a variety of weaving experiences. With patients ranging in age up to 102, we explored weaving on a floor loom, on a table loom, and on simple cardboard looms. Often we would simply sit together, feel yarns, talk about knitting or weaving experiences, and reminisce about our common connections to cloth.
In 2003, I worked at the VA hospital in collaboration with poet Mimi White. Resident patients used words from poems written with Mimi and buttons and fabric to make a collaborative artwork titled "A Circle of Memories." During both residencies, we traveled to visit bedsides, and/or held open workshops in the recreation room.
