Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC), Hartford, CT
The Arts Project Coordinator of the Child and Family Support Services Department at CCMC and I collaborated for five days to guide a community weaving project titled "Interwoven Community." We visited patients in rooms, families in waiting rooms, inpatient recreation areas, and hosted a day long workshop in a large common area. We reached almost 200 patients, staff, volunteers and families to work on this expression of community and diversity at CCMC. The weaving, created from strips of cloth from children's johnnys, doctors' lab coats, hospital scrubs, and a rainbow circle of colors, is truly a symbol of the support, diversity and love within the CCMC community. Completing the project were nearly two hundred clothes pin people and ribbons that contain messages of hope and good will. September, 2005
