Button Project Update: December 2002
As this year comes to a close, I look back with pride and amazement at the journey that the Button Project has taken. Currently the piece is on display at the York Public Library, in my home town of York, Maine. I have included a picture of the piece on display there with the beautiful wooden stand that was custom built for it. This stand was given to me as a gift by the York library trustees. I thank them very much for this generous donation, which will make it possible to display the work in different venues.
I will leave it on display at the library until just past New Year's. Since the completion of this work in mid June, it has been on public view, and received many heartfelt comments. Next month it comes home to my studio. I have invested much of my time and energy for the past year on this work. It has been huge in many, many ways. I feel a little sad to roll it up and put it in my loft.
With help and guidance from friends and family I am pursuing ideas and leads on what to do next with this work. I believe that it will eventually find a permanent home in a public location, such as a museum, foundation or corporate office. My hope is that this home will be in New York City near the former WTC site. I will devote a little time each week in the new year to pursuing the future of the Button Project.
If any readers of this update have ideas, contacts, or interest in helping to promote the Button Project, please contact me. I am truly grateful for your assistance. And many thanks to all who have given time and energy to this work thus far. I am humbled by your generosity.
